Services

Grimoire Localizations was born from the desire to step out of the grim shadow of huge agencies and build a new space where linguists —or lingomancers, as we like to call them— from different parts of this realm could reunite to cast the wondrous spell of translation upon the magical adventures and tales that video games comprise within their unique worlds. For the time being, we only translate from and to English & Spanish, but we’ll soon expand our team to offer more language pairs!
Through magical spells, occult rituals, and sophisticated alchemy, our dedicated team of word magicians delves into the otherworldly arts of localization to offer a wide variety of tailor-made linguistic services:

Translation & Localization

Translation is more than mechanically translating a text word-for-word. To cast the best localization enchantment possible, we focus on the source material's tone, theme, and style to thoroughly adapt it to different markets and steal the hearts of gamers from all around the globe.

Proofreading & Editing

Have you ever heard the saying that goes “two eyes are better than one”? That’s what proofreading is about: we take a translation you’ve already received —whether it was made by a group of loving fans or by the infamous AI— and review it carefully to detect mistranslations and consistency gaps.

Linguistic Quality Assurance (LQA)

Once games are beautifully translated and thoroughly proofread, there’s one thing left to do before launch: test the localized game! LQA involves testing the game to run functionality tests, look for truncated sentences or typos, and see if the localization fits the contexts in which text appears.

Constellation of Values

No task too trifling, no quest too fleeting

Every client, whether it is a solo developer or a large team, deserves to see their work reach the broadest international audience possible. No matter how long the game is or how many words it has, you can count on us to get the job done—our team can handle any project scope.

Every lingomancer is justly rewarded and duly credited

From our perspective, the long-standing, standard translation rates are rather unfair, and the lack of formal recognition stifles our colleagues’ career progression. At Grimoire Localizations, we seek to rectify this by paying our lingomancers fairly and fighting for their proper crediting in-game.

Let the artisans work; let the automata slumber

Game development is a meticulous and artisanal process, and so are our translations. Every project we tackle is hand-crafted by a small and highly experienced team of linguists to ensure that the quality and the consistency of our work comply with the highest standards in the industry.

Unfettered exchanges and everlasting bonds

Open and personalized communication, as well as nurturing long-term commitment, are at the core of our team’s principles. Whatever your needs and worries are, we’ll be there to listen to you and act on a pinch at all times—before, during, and after the task is completed.

Major Arcana

On a fateful Summer night where dreams flew from one end of the phone to the other, a determined wizard and a strong-willed spellcaster decided to team up and embark on an adventure that would change their lives forever. Let’s get to know the two lingomancers who put their heart and soul into creating Grimoire Localizations!

ABRIL

THE SPELLCASTER

When I realized that I could earn a living as a game translator and bring joy to gamers around the globe, I knew I had to dedicate my life to the otherworldly arts of localization and add a magical touch to every Spanish project I worked on. Such was my willingness to become a lingomancer that I spent the past years acquiring experience in the field working on diverse gaming projects as well as multiple qualifications to back up my ever-growing expertise—including a Master in New Technologies, Localization & Audiovisual Translation (in progress!), a BA in Technical, Scientific & Literary Translation (graduated in 2023), and a Diploma in Spanish Copy-Editing & Proofreading (graduated in 2024). Now that I’ve learned dozens of useful localization spells, I am more than ready to go on challenging yet rewarding quests along with an ingenious wizard, Juan.

JUAN

THE WIZARD

The first time I got my hands on a Sega Genesis, I was still a child, but I was mesmerized by the simple yet undeniably alluring fun of its games. I didn’t understand a word of English, but the interactive and intuitive nature of video games allowed me to slowly but surely teach myself the language. Although unbeknownst to me, this had planted the seed of my future as a lingomancer: after obtaining my degree in Literary, Technical, and Scientific Translation in 2015, I decided to channel my cabalistic passion to forge myself a path in the dark arts of localization. Almost ten years later, and after working on over 23 gaming projects (in genres ranging from Action-Platformer, FPS, Adventure, RPG, and MOBA to Social Sims, Racing, and Visual Novel), I’ve amassed enough arcane wisdom to face any audiovisual-linguistic quests along with a shrewd spellcaster, Abby.
